Implants

Implants are the fruits of over 40 years of research. They have been in use for decades, but only in the last few years, with the introduction of titanium, the success rate for this procedure has greatly improved.

Implants can be used to replace single missing teeth, for partial or complete reconstruction of the dentition. The most common procedure is divided into three steps.

1.Insertion: The implant is surgically tightly placed into the jaw bone and covered over with the gums. It will become the artificial root onto which a false tooth can be attached.

2.Integration: A period of healing is then allowed in order for the bone to grow back and lock the implant into place, usually 4 months.

3. Loading: After complete integration the implant is exposed (the soft tissue covering it is removed ) and the false tooth (or bridge) is attached to it.
