Alloderm Grafting

What Causes Gum Recession?

There are many reasons for gum recession: Hard brushing Gum Disease Orthodontics Trauma

Why is it important to treat recession?

Receeded roots are sensitive, collect plaque, are prone to decay and cosmetically unattractive.

What is Alloderm Grafting?

A relatively new procedure in treating root exposure and recession, Alloderm Grafting was introduced in dentistry in 1994. It is an acellular dermal matrix that promotes revascularization and cell population and thus transforms into host tissue when implanted under the gums. Conventionally root exposure is treated by removing a piece of tissue from the palate and grafting it over the exposed area, leaving the patient with two painful surgical sites. Alloderm grafting does away with tissue harvesting  and instead the regenerative matrix is placed on the roots and covered with the patient’s own gingiva. The body’s natural response eventually takes over and transforms the alloderm into new tissue. We use Biohorizon Alloderm Regenerative Matrix.

In addition to General Dentistry we also offer more specialized treatment :
Alloderm regenerative matrix is a great alternative to conventional gum grafts. It does not require harvesting tissues from the patient’s palate, thus much less painful, it offers a natural outcome with good tissue colour match.
